JCADA B'nai Mitzvah Fellows

JCADA's special opportunity for B'nai Mitzvah students to include a service project in honor of their milestone!

With the JCADA's support and the help of their communities, B'nai Mitzvah students can help support survivors, raise awareness about initmate partner violence and dating abuse, and raise funds to support JCADA's life-saving work.

By doing a B'nai Mitzvah project, students get to participate in tikkun olam, or healing the world. This is one of the core parts of Jewish life and fully entering the adult Jewish community. By working with JCADA to do a project that uniquely fits their skill set, B'nai Mitzvah students engage and practice these Jewish values:

G’milut Chasadim- means “acting with loving kindness.” By doing a project that helps survivors of intimate partner violence (IPV) or helps educate people about IPV, B’nai Mitzvah embrace acting with kindness towards all people.

Pikuach Nefesh- means “saving a life.” In Judaism, every other commandment is overridden by the mitzvah of saving a life. Pikuach Nefesh is an important value at JCADA; the work we do helping survivors and educating the community is lifesaving.

Lo Ta’amod- means “do not stand idly by.” No matter what you choose to do for your project, you are practicing this value. Taking action, speaking up, and educating the community are all important ways to engage in actively persuing justice,

Shalom Bayit- means “peace in the home.” By engaging with JCADA, you are helping to promote peaceful living spaces for all. Educating the community about safety at home and supporting survivors ability to access safe, equitable, and peaceful homes is essential to a future free from abuse.

Kavod- means “respect” or "honor." When honor survivors by believing they are worthy of dignity, respect, and autonomy. By working with JCADA on a B'nai Mitzvah project, you are also helping to honor and respect these survivors and empowering them to live safe and free lives.
